The Award Info:
In our industry we have many fine people who work hard to make their own businesses successful by providing a quality product to guests. They treat guests as friends while making a successful living for themselves and we all benefit from these individual efforts because our industry, as a whole grows and prospers. These individuals are the backbone of our industry and there are currently more than 1300 of these people in Nature and Outdoor Tourism in Ontario. Sometimes someone comes along who does all of that and more. These are people who see a larger picture than their own individual businesses. They see a role for our particular industry within the larger world of Tourism in general. They see an expanding spider web of goals and principles that will grow, not just the bottom line but the intrinsic value of Tourism. These people also have an awareness of the stewardship responsibilities involved in our businesses so that growth will occur in thoughtful and sustainable way. They become Champions for Tourism. I am happy to present this award to Hilary Chambers from Pine Grove Resort and Cottages in Port Loring who sits on our NOTO board of directors as Vice-President and is also on the Board of Directors for RTO 12, Explorer’s Edge. To check out this new reservation inquiry system visit: Availability on our website. This has been the best year yet for moose sightings! While the Loring-Restoule region is mostly known for our white tailed deer, we do also have frequent sightings of moose. Our guests have enjoyed their encounters and often send us pictures of these majestic animals. When you visit our region, don't forget your camera or smart phone, you never know what could pop up when walking on our nature trails or driving along Hwy 522.
We have a new venture at Pine Grove Resort. Hilary is turning her house on Davis Drive in the town of Port Loring into a B&B. The house & property needed a lot of work to spruce it up. We are currently still in the middle of renovations and expect it to open in September. This quaint Bed & Breakfast will have 2 rooms available, for 1 night or longer stays. 1 bedroom has a double bed with shared bath, and the second room has a queen size bed with the option of ensuite bath or shared.
Breakfast will be provided via voucher to Jakes Place Restaurant around the corner from the B&B, (within walking distance). Coffee, tea, and fresh baking will be on site. To keep updated check out the website: www.thelostfox.ca or the Facebook Page. Spring comes later in the Loring-Restoule region. The ice huts are off the lake, but there are still some avid snowmobilers on the trails. 2 days ago we had a bit of a thaw, and snow got slushy. Last evening we had a flurry and temperatures dropped. One moment spring is in sight, and the next we are deposited right back into the thick of winter. We are gearing up for opening Pine Grove for the season...so much to do when winter releases its icy grip on the land. If you like to photograph wildlife, spring can be an amazing opportunity, while you may not have summers bold beauty, the wildlife viewing opportunities are exceptional. Be careful driving on Hwy 522 as the deer and moose are moving close to the highway to enjoy new growth and the leftover remnants of road salt. Many of you know we have a new puppy at Pine Grove. Hilary has a Doberman, named Cash. He seems to double in size on a daily basis...Martha (our Fox Terrier) and Cash are fast friends and it will be a joy to share their antics with everyone at the Grove.
Cash is destined to be a show dog, and has been travelling around, meeting as many new people as possible. He has already attended The Toronto Sportsman Show, Dog Shows and will be spending a day at the Pet Expo in Toronto. He is quite the social butterfly and gets along well with both people and other dogs. |
