Fishing at Pine Grove

The Pickerel River provides 40 miles of boating for the avid fisher-person and explorer alike.  Fish the Pickerel River itself, or for the more adventuresome, enjoy a fishing experience on one of our outpost lakes.  Predominant species are walleye (pickerel), northern pike, bass, and pan fish, including crappie.  Fishing & Hunting Licenses are sold in town.  At the resort we sell ice, and bait (worms).  We also provide a screened fish cleaning hut and freezer service.

Over 30 years ago, local cottagers and tourist operators started the first pond reared walleye (pickerel) hatchery in the province of Ontario.  This annual volunteer project has released hundreds of thousands of walleye fingerlings into the river, in addition to making major improvements to area spawning beds, and enhancing both the fishery and the reputation of the community.

There is never a day when you cannot get out on the river to fish or boat as it has many sheltered bays, and it is not subject to the rough water of large lakes, and in addition, fluctuating water levels are not a problem on the Pickerel River system.  The river is controlled by dams, which maintain the water levels throughout the fishing season.

Family Fishing & License Free Days

Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province wide opportunity for Canadian residents to fish Ontario waters without the otherwise mandatory fishing version outdoors card. The Ontario Government designates two periods throughout the year as licence-free, the 3-day Family Day Weekend in February, and a full 9 days in July, which coincides with National Fishing Week.


​Head out on your own, bring a friend or family along and introduce them to fishing, or participate in a local event.

Boating & Rentals

We have 14’ aluminum boat and motor packages which include a 20 hp, 4-stroke, electric start motor, live well, fish finder, seats with back rests, storage, and vinyl floor. 
* We do ask that guests have a boating license and that they bring it with them, we will have you fill out a rental form and go over safe operation with you.
With our boat rentals, we supply the safety equipment required by recent changes by the Canadian Coast Guard.  Life jackets (standard size) are provided with boat rentals; however, if you have your own personal life vest or require a special size for youth or xx size, we encourage you to bring them with you. * We do not supply children's life jackets as they are required to fit each child due to size/age.

Gas and oil are available and a boat launch is located on the property as well as docking for those who wish to bring their own boat.

Here's the "MAN" his name is Art and he caught this monster pickerel May 17th on the upper pickerel river . We had a great time on the long weekend staying at the Pine Grove Resort, we're looking forward to our next trip there . Thanks !!

There were 10 of us that came up to your resort for the opening of bass season. Most of us went fishing and some just relaxed with a book or went for a hike - but that's what its all about. We were looking for a place where we can get away from the concrete jungle for a few days to do some fishing, boating, relax and unwind, play some cards, have a few drinks and a lot laughs.
Well your resort, the accommodations and the fishing met all our expectations. We all agreed this was one of the best fishing trips we have had and the most fish we have caught!!! We even turned a couple of non fisherman into fisherman and they have already booked their spots with me for next year. We were talking about this trip for weeks after returning sharing our story with other friends!!!
We had a great time and look forward to returning for opening season of bass next year!!! I have attached some pictures from our trip!!
