Ok..any time of year seems to be "the right time". You simply cannot take a bad photo at Pine Grove! Hilary was out wandering and came across our Fox friend. Many of you may have seen him this past summer or fall. He likes to do the rounds and see if any food has been left out for him. This fox is curious to the point of being friendly, and often can be found watching our guests. He is the official mascot of our Gift shop/gallery at Pine Grove, and is the logo for Hilary's communications company Northern Chic.
One of the best kept secrets in cottage country is the fall season. Not only is the bounty of autumn colours awe inspiring, but the crisp fall nights and bright sunny days make for a spectacular vacation. The bustle & noise of summer vacationers is all but gone. One can enjoy the serene tranquility of the river, for fishing, boating or just lazing the day away. The nature trails and riverbanks showcase the glory of fall colours, while wildlife viewing & photography opportunities are endless. Fall also provides a good opportunity to explore the many back roads of our local communities. There are unique artisan shops, garden centers, antique shops and honey farms to enjoy. Why not take home a memorable slice of northern life and get a leg up on Christmas shopping.
Fall is a wonderful time for family reunions, celebrations, Thanksgiving at the cottage..or just some one on one romance time. The autumn season also serves up some great fishing on the Pickerel River and our various out lakes...so take a trip with the guys or the gals & share some fish tales around the fire. Ask us how we can help create a package around your needs. 10% seasonal discount this fall (holidays excluded). We have been very fortunate this season to have visits from a large array of wildlife. Hilary had a broad-winged hawk fly into the side of her car, and was able to rehabilitate and release it into the wild. It was very entertaining living with a large raptor, and he proved to be quite intelligent and thought of Hilary as his mother. The little hawk has returned for his favorite treat of dew worms a few times, and occasionally he does fly by the resort. We wish him well on his journey south this winter. The other regular visitors to Pine Grove, have been a family of Red Fox. They mainly spend their time by The Farmhouse, often making their presence known around the fire...perhaps looking for a handout. While we do not condone feeding wild animals, it was very neat to see them up close. The resident snowshoe hare family was not impressed by the fox lurking around and we assume they wont be feeding off our garden in quite the same numbers!

This brilliant novel is his heart song, his crowning achievement thus far.” – Joseph Boyden “One of the finest novels of the year…. Medicine Walk is not only a graceful book, it is a novel of grace, of coming to terms with hidden truths, of coming to know the secrets behind forbidding appearances, of finding the humanity within strangers.” – Vancouver Sun The SunDog Gallery & Pine Grove Resort are proud to present: 2014 Writer’s Retreats with Richard Wagamese There is a storyteller in all of us. The trouble is that we forget that. When we struggle with our writing it’s because we forget the tools that we already carry. We forget that we are born with the gift of language. We forget that we alone among creatures have the ability to translate our dreams into words and image. We forget that we are all storytellers. Storywalk is a unique writing program that comes from the Ojibway oral storytelling tradition. Through the use of ceremony and daily walks on the land you will reconnect to the storyteller within you. Beginning with the practice of spontaneous oral storytelling you will be guided to remember the free-flow use of language you knew as a child. You will remember how to use language in a child-like, uninhibited way and to create whole stories on the spot from word cues. This will introduce you to ’The Channel’, the vital storytelling space where creativity is given power. Working with The Channel Each day you will approach The Channel through ceremony and time with the spirit of the land. You will learn how to center yourself on the creative channel we all possess but have forgotten how to use. You will learn how to access this creative channel anytime you choose. Using Richard’s unique Storywalk technique you will learn how to use the 5 oral storytelling principles to construct strong, vibrant narrative arcs. You will take these principles and techniques and transfer them to the printed page where you will learn to work with the ideas that ‘writing is not struggle’ and ‘when you start to think – stop.’ These two simple ideas will transform your writing.
